Ben Ashworth
Ben Ashworth joined the firm in the summer of 2023. Prior to joining the firm, Ben clerked for five years for Judges Paul Gurney, David Hauber, Rhonda Mason, Michael Joyce, and Christopher Jayaram at the Johnson County District Court. He also worked in private practice at a local firm, doing class action and employment-related plaintiff’s work on a contingency basis. Ben has a broad practice across all areas of employment and business law. He represents plaintiffs in discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, wage misclassification, and unpaid wage disputes, before both the administrative agencies (the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Kansas Human Rights Commission, and the Missouri Commission on Human Rights) and state and federal court. Ben also represents employees in negotiations relating to their departure from their companies, including severance agreements. Ben defends companies and small businesses in employment related matters and he and his firm operate as general counsel to a number of businesses across Kansas City and the country. He also represents both companies and individuals in trade secret, non-solicitation, and non-compete disputes. His transactional work includes drafting severance agreements, employment agreements, operating agreements, and service agreements.
Ben is a frequent CLE presenter, with recent presentations before the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Earl E. O’Connor Inn of Court, and the LGBTQ Bar Association of Greater Kansas City. Ben serves on the Board of Directors of the Johnson County Bar Association as the Membership Chair and on the Board of Directors of the Earl E. O’Connor Inn of Court as the Achieving Excellence Coordinator, where he is tasked with maintaining the Inn’s longtime platinum designation. Ben has served on the Inn board in some capacity for the last eight years. Additionally, he is a Board Member of Madison Avenue Performing Arts, which provides performing arts opportunities to children in Johnson County aged 5-18.
Ben is the recipient of the Super Lawyers Rising Star designation for the years 2024 and 2025. He is licensed in Kansas, Missouri, and the United States District Courts of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and once again in 2015 with his Juris Doctor.
